If you had a chance to read our preview and review of San Gelato Cafe of SoDa Row you already know that the Sassies are fans for life.   But really, who wouldn’t be?  They have over 110 flavors of of AWARD WINNING gelato.  Honestly, any place that has taken Nutella and turned it into a cold, creamy, and mouthwatering treat is probably going to be in my top 20 favorite places of all time.  That is pretty high ranking considering my standards.

Now the Sassies didn’t only enjoy the tempting sweet treats at San Gelato Cafe.  I wasn’t expecting a gelato shop to have such a well crafted menu with such a varietyof food options.  Needless to say my eyes and my taste buds were pleasantly surprised.  The owner, Robert, served us some of the best tasting sandwiches I have had in a long time.  I know my, and some of the other Sassies, favorite was the Ferrari Panini.  Try to say that 3 times fast.

Now that I have had my first taste of gelato, at the San Gelato Cafe, I may never go back to ice cream again.  With all the scrumptious flavors and vibrant color choices, rocky road just won’t ever seem the same.  And thankfully gelato is healthier than ice cream so maybe my waistline will benefit from my new discovery also.

The Sassies always have fabulous time when were are out on the town.  Good food, delicious desserts, and of course plenty of girl talk made our time at the San Gelato Cafe on SoDa Row simply fabulous.  It is the perfect place for a girl’s lunch, family night out, or even a romantic date night.

Did I forget to mention how much fun we had?

Camille: A very clean, classy place to eat – with cases and cases of shiny, gorgeous gelato!
Emily: Who knew such a treasure was hidden so far off the beaten path? The rainbow of gelato flavors beckoned me toward the shiny glass cases and the smell of scrumptious sandwiches had me drooling the minute I opened the door. Oh, and the beautiful painting above the toasty fireplace was magnifique!
Evonne: It felt comfortable, but sophisticated. Like you wouldn’t mind pulling up a chair by the fire and sipping your favorite beverage, or bringing someone important on a date.
Kristina: That I had somehow stepped into a posh eatery in New York City. And then I realized I was in still Utah, and had to drown my sorrows in smoothies, delicious sandwiches and gelato. Mission accomplished.
Michelle: Great atmosphere and beautiful, vividly colored gelato. Made me want to get started right away!
Quinn: Swanky place! I loved the modern architecture of the building on the outside and adored the homey, classy interior (especially the leather sofas by the fireplace).
Stephanie: It was very open and full of light. I love places that are bright, they seem more cheery.
Vanessa: Holy moly, the GELATO! Beautiful, colorful, mouthwatering. You see the gelato all lined up in the beautiful cases as soon as you walk in.

What did you like the most?

Camille: Can I choose two? The Bianca on foccacia bread is a delicious Italian twist on the chicken salad sandwich. Plus, all the varieties of that gorgeous gelato. You can’t go wrong with any flavor! My favorite – the peanut butter.
Emily: Every sandwich and soup we sampled was tasty but my fave had to be the Ferrari, which I ordered two days later when visiting San Gelato Café with my girls. I also adored their coconut gelato paired with their scrumptious butter pecan. (Oh, and they have vanilla syrup to flavor your Diet Coke–yum!)
Evonne: I like the location, because I don’t live by a lot of different, great places to eat.
Kristina: I liked the fact that I probably asked for 10 more samples than the rest of the group, because the gelato was so delicious, and the staff only judged me with their eyes, not out loud.
Michelle: Everything I tried! All the sandwiches were amazing, the piña colada made me feel the need to escape to Hawaii and the gelato was so creamy and dreamy.
Quinn: I thought the whole experience was delightful. I loved everything from the gelato, to the sandwiches (especially The Ferrari sandwich – like a BLT but a billion times better), to the friendly owner who loved chatting with us. He said that they’re always cleaning the glass on the gelato cases because kids can’t help pressing their noses against it to look inside at all the gorgeous gelato flavors, but San Gelato Café loves that – totally family friendly!
Stephanie: I would say the Ferrari paninni… or wait, the Nutella gelato. Do I have to only have one that I liked the most?
Vanessa: Going to say it and I mean it, best gelato I have had in Utah out of the five places I have visited that have gelato. Also their sandwiches were very, very yummy.

Camille: The location. It doesn’t seem as easily accessible unless you live in Daybreak. Plus, for someone who lives in Utah County, it’s a little bit of a drive.
Emily: I’m still not a big fan of the location, but it didn’t take as long to get there as I thought. Plus you’re not far from The District and of course you’re RIGHT NEXT DOOR to Oopsie Daisy! I did find the prices just a titch on the high side (about $7 to $8 for a sandwich) but they did have some great daily specials and their piña colada smoothie was fabulous for less than $3.
Evonne: Since I had to share sandwiches…everything had tomatoes on it…I hate tomatoes!
Kristina: I didn’t like the fact that the gelato not only tastes good, but it’s so darn healthy. I really don’t like feeling like I did something good for my body.
Michelle: The Tomato Basil Soup was a little strong for me.
Quinn: I wished there were more sugar-free options, but even without it was still completely delicious and there were a lot of healthy choices (gelato is healthier than ice cream, so that was fabulous). I also wish there were a location closer to my home, but hopefully they’ll be able to build one soon!
Stephanie: The parking. I am not a fan of parallel parking because let’s be honest, I am not good at it.
Vanessa: The soup needs some more pizazz to it, but I am picky with my soups.

Camille: Oh yes – especially if I’m in the area. But even for a scheduled girls’ night out with my friends, I’d definitely recommend eating there!
Emily: Yes, and I already have. Met my sister there two days after our review for my favorite Ferrari sandwich, tomato soup and a Diet Coke with vanilla. Shopped next door and came back for gelato and a piña colada smoothie!
Evonne: I would definitely go again, because I don’t think I tried EVERY flavor of gelato.
Kristina: Does thinking about floating in a pond with thousands of swans, with Ryan Gosling, make me all giddy inside? I think we all know the answer.
Michelle: Yes, I can’t wait to go again! That A.C.E. Sorbet is calling my name. Thanks to the owner for suggesting it!
Quinn: Absolutely! I keep telling everyone that will listen to me that they should go and check it out. I can’t wait to go back again!
Stephanie: Yes. I am planning on going this evening after my son’s basketball game.
Vanessa: Yes, yes, yes, a trillion times yes! I is only 4 minutes away from us and the sandwiches are amazing.

Panini, pizzas and gelato, OH MY! The Sassies recently had the pleasure of visiting San Gelato Café on SoDa Row in South Jordan, and what a scrumptious pleasure it was. Not only was the café warm, inviting and full of drool-inducing fare (sandwiches and soups and salads and smoothies), it is quite possibly the only café serving award-winning gelato in Utah.

The highlights:

• San Gelato Café on SoDa Row is the first franchise outside the café’s origins in Florida
• The café has been open only three months but is already a favorite among locals–and was hoppin’ at lunchtime last Saturday
• The menu offers coffee, sandwiches, panini, wraps, salads, pizza, smoothies and even a “bambino” menu
• San Gelato Café boasts 110 different flavors of gelato and sorbet
• The café’s artisan gelato, G.S. Gelato, has won one prestigious award (first in People’s Choice Awards for “Best in Show“) and was served at the recent National Italian American Foundation’s (NIAF) 34th Anniversary Awards Gala (that’s a room full of Italians, so your gelato better be the best)
• Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill serve gelato crafted by G.S. Gelato
• The café sources the bread for their sandwiches and panini from our very own Granatos downtown
• They have a Facebook fan page offering fans special deals and discounts all the time

Before the other Sassies arrived I had the opportunity to talk with Robert Avery, the manager of San Gelato Café. He filled me in on all the goodies listed above and a few other things like the possibility of future café locations in the valley and the fact that his wife owns the to-die-for boutique Oopsie Daisy located next door. (The Sassies are definitely going to review that boutique in the coming months!)

We reviewed San Gelato Café on a Thursday night and I was back again on Saturday with my two older girls to meet my sister for a late lunch and a little shopping next door. Yes, it was that good! Check out how much fun we had at this new South Jordan/Daybreak café:
