What was your first impression?

THE SCOOP

Brooke: I was immediately drawn to the cozy atmosphere, both inside and outside the restaurant. I loved the colorful round lantern lights, the warm firepits and the water features. The setting was gorgeous.
Emily: Loved the atmosphere and the location—tucked away and kind of romantic!
Quinn: It looked completely magical with the lit, colored paper lanterns and the water feature surrounding the outdoor dining, as well as the beautiful fire by our table to keep us warm. Took my breath away!
Shannon: Gorgeous outdoor seating, with heaters to make it comfortable even on a brisk night.
Stephanie: Charming location with a lovely outdoor dining area.

What did you like the most?

THE SCOOP

Brooke: TThe food was delicious! Impressive but not intimidating. My favorite dishes were the Daufuskie Island Crab Bake (I could’ve polished off the whole thing on my own) as well as the Asparagus Quesadillas with Brie and sun dried tomatoes.
Emily: The crab & artichoke dip was super tasty and the quesadillas were yummy! My favorite part of dining was sitting by the outdoor fire for sure.
Quinn: The Asparagus Quesadillas were completely amazing. All the food tasted so fresh and full of flavor. The outdoor dining was the icing on the cake, though.
Shannon: The best calamari I have ever eaten. Simply Delicious. The beef carpaccio and arugula was incredible, too.
Stephanie: The company. Great food is always best with fabulous friends. Oh, and the crab bake dip was heavenly. Creamy, hot, with large chunks of tender crab meat.

What didn’t you like?

THE SCOOP:

Brooke: Although it was beautifully presented, I didn’t love the Calamari Fritti. Nothing against the dish, I just think that I don’t have a very sophisticated palate when it comes to certain types of seafood!
Emily: I wasn’t a big fan of the carpaccio—it was my first time and I couldn’t get into the texture.
Quinn: I realized that night that though I’ve thought I’m a seafood lover all my life, I actually only like the most basic types of seafood (i.e. shrimp, crab, salmon, etc.). The calimari put me over the edge, but I loved the crab dip. I only say this because the other girls were oohing and aahing at the seafood so my perspective is no reflection on how delicious the seafood at Easy Street really is.
Shannon: I don’t know if we were late or what, but I was sad there was no dessert — had to stop by McDonalds for a chocolate shake on my way home.
Stephanie: There wasn’t enough lighting outside. Almost completely dark does not equal romantic.

Brooke: Definitely. I’d love to go back on a date with my husband. :) The ambiance was so romantic!
Emily: Yes! I love Park City and this was a fun new discovery for me. I can’t wait to take my husband for a romantic dinner!
Quinn: Completely yes! I haven’t stopped talking about Easy Street Brasserie since the review. It’s definitely the place for a romantic evening with someone you love (i.e. can’t wait to take my hubby!) or just a really great place for a girl’s night. I would love to go and stay at The Sky Lodge for a weekend and go eat at Easy Street while we’re there; would be the perfect anniversary locale.
Shannon: Definitely. The food was amazying, and I loved sitting out in the courtyard.
Stephanie: Yes. It is reasonably priced for a Park City resteraunt.

Brooke: Jaw-droppingly gorgeous prints. It was like a feast for my eyes!! The COLOR and subject matter were truly amazing. David Schultz is a master at his craft.
Emily: The gallery was absolutely beautiful yet cozy and charming and every photo had some serious “wow!” factor. I also loved how easygoing David was–he was the perfect host!

Brooke: The cozy atmosphere, the incredibly juicy colors in the prints, the stories behind the photography, David Schultz’s sweet dog, beautiful Park City Main Street.
Emily: It’s hard to decide because I loved so many things: David’s sense of humor (laughed out loud reading some of the captions he put on his penguin photos); Koda’s very own window; and of course my “Aspen Leaves, Utah” print (pictured at right)!

Shannon: The gorgeous pictures. Not to insult photography, but it seems to be an art form that everyone can “get.” I mean, either the photograph is beautiful (or powerful, or gut-wrenching, or life-changing), or it’s not. David Schultz’s art is pretty enough to appeal to people who like pretty, and real enough to appeal to any sort of nature-lover.
Stephanie: The photography. My favorite was a shot of 2 giant icebergs next to one another.

Brooke: I wish that I could afford to buy a huge print to hang on my wall. Actually, I’d want to buy several.
Emily: Only that I don’t get up to Park City enough. I am seriously missing out!

The Sassies had a fantastic time sampling the food at The Sky Lodge’s Easy Street Brasserie! The food was oh-so-yummy and the environment was unforgettable!

We did find out, however, that some of us aren’t really big on seafood (i.e. me).  I always thought I was a seafood lover, but I now realize that my “seafood” love was mostly for shrimp, imitation crab and an occasional salmon.  The fancy calimari and crab claws Easy Street prepared for us looked so gorgeous and everyone in our group was raving over it, so I know it was just me and my limited seafood palate.  However, I died over the crab dip and the asparagus quesadillas.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SCRUMPTIOUS!!!!!

Recently the Sassies had the great pleasure of heading up to Park City Main Street to review the amazing Easy Street Brasserie at The Sky Lodge.  The Easy Street Brasserie is a restaurant located in The Sky Lodge hotel.

Just plain fabulous. Enjoy impeccable food the easy way at this comfy grill with a great big heart. Located in a charming Main Street historic landmark at The Sky Lodge, Park Cityâs hip new five-star-style hotel.

Finest ingredients skillfully prepared. Raw seafood bar. Sizzling rotisserie. Come as you are. Hungry, engaged, relaxed, sophisticated. Easy Street Steak & Seafood · Spectacularly down to earth.

In speaking with their Executive Chef Scott Boborek, he told us how he believes that flavor is lost if food is cooked too quickly.  Because of this, he ensures that every dish is slow-cooked to perfection.  Chef Scott enjoys unleashing a food’s naturally wonderful flavor.  Because of this, he only uses minimal seasonings and is very particular about the cooking process.  His attention to detail makes every dish served at the Easy Street Brasserie a real treat!  … uh-oh… am I spoiling Wednesday’s review post by saying that?  ;)

Here’s a little bit more about Executive Chef Scott Boborek: “With twenty years in highly rated restaurants across the county, Scott Boborek was made to order to create and open The Sky Lodge’s diverse and top-quality restaurants.  Most recently Scott served as Executive Chef at Park City’s classic French restaurant, Bistro Toujours, named “Best” by Bon Appetit, The Chicago Tribune and Salt Lake Magazine, to name a few.  Previously, Scott was Executive Chef and Chef/Owner of noted Regional Italian and World Cuisine restaurants in Chicago and the Gulf Coast.  Scott has appeared in Who’s Who of Chefs and has a Washburn Culinary Arts degree.”

Chef Scott mentioned to us that his style of cooking has a lot to do with his Southern and Chicago influences, which makes for extraordinarily delicious, unique cuisine… hmmm… I just can’t resist giving away Wednesday’s review, can I?  It can’t be too hard to guess just how yummy we all thought the food at Easy Street Brasserie is… right?  ;)  Still, be sure to tune in as we unfold the rest of the “scoop” on Easy Street Brasserie this week!

Okay, so not all of David C. Schultz’s photo shoots take place in subzero temperatures but those are the ones we enjoyed hearing about since those are the ones with the best stories. I’d love to retell some of his arctic exploits in this post but I wouldn’t do them justice. There’s something in the way he tells about the constant rocking of a Russian icebreaker that makes you feel like you’re there, seasickness and all. How David continues to enjoy those adventures is beyond me, but I’m sure glad he does because he snaps some amazing photographs in the middle of that icy nowhere.

As for those expeditions on Russian icebreakers, I just don’t think David was selling it. Perhaps if he’d left out the part about the hungry polar bears and the injuries from the boat’s rocking I might have considered signing up for the next one. (Okay, Mom, you can stop laughing hysterically now.) Here’s David telling us just how much fun those month-long photos shoots can be. By the way, Flip cameras are great but the sound isn’t always the best. You’ll have to crank up the volume just a bit. (And yes, that’s a polar bear skull in the background):

We really had a wonderful time visiting with David and oohing and aahing over his beautiful photography, and believe it or not, not all his photos have snow in the background. You simply must visit his online gallery to view his collection…and then you simply must head to Park City and see them in all their glory. It’s definitely worth the drive, and if you’re lucky you’ll catch a glimpse of Koda in the window.

Brooke: Jaw-droppingly gorgeous prints. It was like a feast for my eyes!! The COLOR and subject matter were truly amazing. David Schultz is a master at his craft.
Emily: The gallery was absolutely beautiful yet cozy and charming and every photo had some serious “wow!” factor. I also loved how easygoing David was–he was the perfect host!

What did you like the most?

THE SCOOP

Brooke: The cozy atmosphere, the incredibly juicy colors in the prints, the stories behind the photography, David Schultz’s sweet dog, beautiful Park City Main Street.
Emily: It’s hard to decide because I loved so many things: David’s sense of humor (laughed out loud reading some of the captions he put on his penguin photos); Koda’s very own window; and of course my “Aspen Leaves, Utah” print (pictured at right)!

Shannon: The gorgeous pictures. Not to insult photography, but it seems to be an art form that everyone can “get.” I mean, either the photograph is beautiful (or powerful, or gut-wrenching, or life-changing), or it’s not. David Schultz’s art is pretty enough to appeal to people who like pretty, and real enough to appeal to any sort of nature-lover.
Stephanie: The photography. My favorite was a shot of 2 giant icebergs next to one another.

Brooke: I wish that I could afford to buy a huge print to hang on my wall. Actually, I’d want to buy several.
Emily: Only that I don’t get up to Park City enough. I am seriously missing out!

Shannon: That I am poor and cannot really afford a mural-sized print of Prince Edward Island.
Stephanie: Parking, parking, parking. I am just glad I didn’t drive my truck.

Brooke: Yes! It was mesmerizing to look at each print, I could spend a lot more time looking at them again.
Emily: For sure! I definitely need to take my husband on a date night and walk through the gallery. He’d love it!

I’m married to Mr. Bennet (not his real name) and have three girls: Sally, Susan & Spot. I think most TV is highly overrated (esp. that Glee show and the new series Buffy the Vampire Slayer which I just discovered on hulu.com) but love House, Castle, Burn Notice, Bones, and The Office. Tucked away on Main Street in Park City is an art gallery that will educate you, inspire you and leave you with a new appreciation for nature by surrounding you in its beauty, its grandeur and even its spontaneity. Sound poetic? That’s because the photography of David C. Schultz is nature at its most poetic and awe inspiring.

David is the owner of West Light Images gallery in Park City, Utah and his work “captures the brilliant colors, stunning natural features, and tiniest details of the Western American landscape on film.” You can read a bit more about the artist here.

David’s work has been published in magazines like Travel & Leisure, Snow Country, Cowboys and Indians, Islands, and National Geographic Traveler. He opened his gallery in the fall of 1998:

The collection of photographs which I’ve selected to display represents a fraction of nature’s beauty which I’ve been fortunate enough to witness. A very important part of photography is the ability to see the moment, and to have the patience and awareness to wait and observe the light and shadows. Quinn and I and a few guest Sassies were lucky enough to visit West Light Images and meet the artist behind the stunning photography. We can’t wait to share more with you so check back on Wednesday for our official review of the gallery. On our Follow-up Friday we’ll have some awesome behind-the-scenes video where David tells us more about the crazy cold adventures he’s had while photographing some pretty curious penguins and pretty hungry polar bears. You might even catch a glimpse of his dog Koda–we’re told she’s the real boss at the gallery!
