Preview: Beauty by Crystal

Today I’m soooooo excited to start off our week featuring the fabulously talented Crystal Clark.  Crystal is a stylist who specializes in haircuts for women, men and children as well as eyelash extensions, colors and special occasion hair/up-do’s.

Crystal received her primary training and certification years ago at Taylor Andrews.  She’s also done a lot of Aveda training, especially on cut and color techniques, as well as makeup application theory.

For Crystal, though, her involvement in styling revolves around how she’s always been a creative, artistic person.  She sees doing hair and eyelashes as a truly artistic outlet.  Crystal also loves how doing hair helps her get to know people. (This means when you’re in her chair you’re not going to feel awkward with nothing to talk about…phew!).

A long time ago I had a hair stylist tell me she’s a “beautician, not a magician” when I was trying to get her to read my mind and figure out how to cut my hair. (Sometimes I struggle with being very precise on what I want done with my hair; I’m sure you know what that’s like!)  Crystal, however, is practically a hair magician.  I sit in her chair with a very basic idea of what I want her to do. I’m an artist so I use a lot of adjectives to describe the cut, like “pixie,” “piecey,” “sexy,” “fresh,” etc. This has made it difficult for stylists in the past to decode exactly what I want the cut to look like once they’re done.  When Crystal’s finished, my hair is not only what I was hoping for but even better!

I’ve brought all my kids to her, too, and have been THRILLED with the results.  My four-year-old son gets a handsome, stylish, manly cut and my two-year-old daughter looks oh-so-sassy in her stacked pixie, A-line bob (pictured below).  She’s so cute with kids, too.  My kids are always very relaxed in her chair.

SassyScoops Exclusive Confession #1: I’ve never been good at styling my hair.

  • Solution: Crystal’s expert haircuts make my hair look super sassy, even if it’s just air-dried.

SassyScoops Exclusive Confession #2: I have about 10 eyelashes total (for both eyes) and also have giant eyes. (I was even called “bug eyes” back in my school days.)  Put these two together and it makes for a lethal combination.

  • Solution: Crystal does gorgeous eyelash extensions!!!  When I’ve had my eyelashes done, people will often stop mid-conversation to look in wonder and say, “You have the most incredible eyelashes!”

Here’s a little peek at Crystal’s pricing. Prepare to drop on the floor at how ridiculously affordable they are.  Honestly, Crystal’s haircuts are as amazing as going to some swanky place and paying $80 for a cut. (She’s worked at those snooty places too, but chooses instead to work in a more comfortable atmosphere for her clients at Hair Talk Salon.)

Services & Pricing:

  • Adult Haircuts – $15.00
  • Kids Haircuts – $9 (ages 9 and under; add $1 for each year over 9 for ages 10-14)
  • Blow-dry + Style – $15
  • Up-Do’s/Special Occasion Styling – $20 for practice session; $25 for actual day (wedding styling $35)

I seriously loved Crystal. I wish I would have needed a more dramatic change because I know she would have done an amazing job. But she did teach me how to roundbrush… Now I just need to go out and get one.
