Review: The Chocolate

So what did the Sassies and Becca, our guest Sassy, think of The Chocolate in Orem? Read on to find out!

QUESTION

What was your first impression?
.

THE SCOOP

Becca: Love! Love! and uber love! This place is as charming as they come!
Camille: I love the feel of the cafe—so cozy and friendly. And the desserts—very unique and delicious! Perfect for a girls’ night out.
Emily: I love the quaint feel of the historic building and how each room is designed differently. Plus their “cakes for two” catch your eye (and make you drool instantly).
Kalli: I love the house they are in. I always have. And I love dessert. So really this is a perfect pairing for me.
Kristina: I thought I had walked into a scene from a Jack Weyland/Jane Austen Novel. They are interchangeable, really. The place was adorable and had a warm, cozy feeling! I wanted to pour a glass of milk and start talking about Team Edward vs. Team Jacob, and I don’t even like Twilight!
Michelle: I love the whole vibe of the house. It was so cozy and welcoming, like you should find a seat in a little nook and stay for a while. The owners were great and have a real passion for their dreams.
Quinn: Such a cute location! Loved the decor and atmosphere.
Stephanie: The smell. It was divine. Nothing beats the smell baked goods.
Vanessa: Darling, in a quaint house right off State Street, the perfect location to meet! The cases were full of very tasty looking items! The owners seem like a lot of fun, have a wonderful passion for their business and put a lot of love into their company.

QUESTION

What did you like the most?

.
THE SCOOP

Becca: I loved the story behind the start up of this company. Knowing its fun history made every bite all the more divine! But if I had to pick a favorite treat it has to be the cream puff and white chocolate macadamia Cazukie!
Camille: Oh man—I can’t narrow it down to just one, so I have to list a few: the chocolate caramel cupcakes, their strawberry shortcake/cream puff, the Magic Potato (which I didn’t expect to love as much as I did!), and the Cazookie.
Emily: Definitely the Dottie cake: similar to pineapple upside-down cake but so much better! This one is covered with just the right amount of vanilla whipped cream and toasted coconut. I’m still dreaming about it, by the slice, of course.
Kalli: The strawberry cream puff, which I hoarded from everyone else. I never said I was a giver…or sharer.
Kristina: My favorite thing was the strawberry shortcake. Surprising, considering I will bathe in chocolate and there was no chocolate to be seen. It had real whipped cream and none of that disgusting Cool Whip crap that makes me sad to be an American.
Michelle: Um, everything I tried. No really, it was all amazing. I especially loved the chocolate peanut butter chip cookie, strawberry cream puff and turtle brownies.
Quinn: The Cazookie was amazing! The sugar cookies were really yummy also, as was The Husband cake…mmmm!
Stephanie: The quaint and cozy seating areas. It is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy your dessert and a cold glass of milk.
Vanessa: The Cazookie that Becca ordered—how had I not had that in my lifetime yet? Also the brownies were just fabulous: moist, flavors spot-on, just a perfect perfect brownie. Their pineapple coconut cake is one of my favorite treats—such a perfect mix of flavors. The pineapple, toasted coconut and vanilla whipped cream = perfection.

QUESTION

What didn’t you like?

.
THE SCOOP

Becca: I didn’t like sharing! (I kid!)
Camille: The location of the cafe on a busy State Street makes it hard to leave the small parking lot at times.
Emily: That’s a good question. What’s not to like about a cute little home filled with decadent cake slices? I’d probably have to say the location, not so much that it’s on State Street but that it’s, well, on a very busy part of State Street and it’s nearly impossible to turn left. And the parking lot is a bit small but somehow everyone manages to find a place!
Kalli: I’ve got nothing.
Kristina: I am a frosting fanatic, but I didn’t love the frosting on the yellow cake. It was really, really sweet. Even sweeter than America’s Sweetheart, Tiger Woods.
Michelle: I felt kind of bad when we got a bit riotous and could not shut the door to our little room to keep the noise level down. Nine girls eating masses of desserts can lose track of the volume level. I hope we did not disturb the other customers. {I agree…that room, perfect for party size, needs a door to keep the volume level from bothering other guests.}
Quinn: Wasn’t crazy about the Magic Potato, but I’m not big on sweet potatoes anyway.
Stephanie: The parking—that was until I realized you could park behind the building.
Vanessa: The cupcakes did not “wow” me as didn’t a couple of the cakes. I mean, they were good but they were just not as delectable as their other items.

QUESTION

Would you visit again?

.
THE SCOOP

Becca: Let’s just say my waistline is pretty lucky I don’t live closer! I’ll for sure be going back!
Camille: Absolutely! Did you not read my “what I like the most” comment? And I still haven’t tried everything….
Emily: Yes, I will definitely return to The Chocolate. It’s almost worth a drive down there just for one slice of The Dottie, but I rarely venture south so it will have to wait until my next visit to the in-laws.
Kalli: Absofreakinglutely. Since we live in Mormonville and not all of us are up in the club drinking socially, it’s great to have a place to go in the evenings that’s not a restaurant to do that instead.
Kristina: Definitely. It almost makes me sad I don’t live in Utah County anymore. ALMOST.
Michelle: Definitely. I wish they lived in my pantry so I could open up the door and order any time. {If they do move in, let me know. I’ll be coming over on a daily basis.}
Quinn: Definitely! It’s such a fun little place with so many delicious treats. Would be the perfect date or girls’ night out location.
Stephanie: Yes. Perfect place for a quick date or a girls’ night out.
Vanessa: If I was in Utah County, yes. I also love their Girls Night Out idea on Wednesday, such a perfect place to stay up late and chat with friends.
