Preview: Anastasia’s Attic

Anastasia’s Attic, located within Gardner Village, is an emporium for all things that appeal to the romantic inside all of us.  Little treasures and trinkets fill the shop, each with their own story and meaning.  The store is put together as if you are in the Russian Princess Anastasia Romanov’s attic, taking you to a place where she not only lived, but had wonderful adventures, keeping all of her priceless treasures tucked away in this special place.  If you’re looking for a place to find something sentimental for yourself or someone you love or care about, this is the place for you!

Tara Starling’s inspiration for starting Anastasia’s Attic, began right after September 11, 2001.  She dreamt of creating a place where people could escape their cares and worries and reconnect to tranquility and inspiration.  Tara says, “…with a degree in musical theater and a career as a makeup artist in TV and film, I was really the least likely person to start a business.  And the last person to want to.  And yet the dream persisted.  This place wanted to be real.”

So Tara took courage and created Anastasia’s Attic.  It’s been a terrific journey for her.  Her sweet shop shows just how dreams really can come true, if you just believe.  I loved what she says about what she’s learned so far with following and creating the dream of Anastasia’s Attic:

“Beauty is a necessity. It is like air for our soul. Beauty is the visual manifestation of Love. The great masters of every age have known this, and have taught us this great truth in many different voices. Beauty has the power to comfort, heal, and nurture us because it reminds us of where we come from. It resonates with something deep within our souls, a veiled remembrance of our true home, the Source of all that is truly beautiful. Beauty also has the ability to inspire and empower us, because it reminds us of our true idenity, of who we really are, and of the true measure of our creation. We came from Beauty and Love, and we evolve each day as we discover that same Beauty and Love more purely within us and within everyone around us.

So then, why the trinkets and the treasures, and all the things that glitter and sparkle and beckon our imagination? They are the post-it notes that keep us mindful of Beauty’s place and power in our lives. They are the small yet sublime reminders of that great and magnificent truth: that we come from Beauty and Love, that we are Beauty and Love, and that we are returning to Beauty and Love. Whether it be a gilded frame embracing a photo of those we cherish or a plumed feather pen used to scribble out a few lines of encouragement, these little luxuries act as a reticular activator of sorts for our soul, and remind us just for one beautiful moment of the treasures within us all.”

This week, follow the Sassies journey through Anastasia’s Attic.  Each of us were given a chocolate as soon as we entered and then had our cheeks dusted with a little star of fairy dust, all standard treatment for guests of Anastasia’s Attic.  Each of us left with a few handpicked treasures, reminding us to see beauty in our lives, simplify and pursue our dreams.
