Find your balance at Shanta Yoga

When my husband found out I was going to be doing yoga, by choice, on a Saturday morning, he just laughed. I am not really what one would call the flexible type. Or meditative type. Or person who likes to move her body more than necessary type. And while I don’t normally like yoga, and I usually roll my eyes at anything having to do with medidation, I was surprised at how much I genuinely enjoyed Amrit Yoga and Ramdas and Dhruti.

They live, breathe, sleep and eat yoga and it shows in their passion for talking about it and teaching it. And did we mention that they work by donations? I mean, yoga, meditation, and do-gooders all in one? For anyone who knows me, one of my life missions is to destroy the earth, and yet I found myself perfectly at home at the Shanta Yoga studio.

As some of the other Sassies indicated, this is not your typical fitness, fast-paced yoga. You will not get arms like Madonna, which can cut steel, in 10 minutes. Her arms are creepy, anyway. But you will get a sense of inner peace and accomplishment. And ultimately, you WILL get better tone and body. The class started with a beautiful Sanskrit chant, and have I mentioned the Yoga Nidra portion? It literally means “Yoga Sleep.” Now this is my kind of yoga.

And luckily for you, you can experience an entire 2 hour class of just Yoga Nidra on Saturday, February 25th, from 7-9 PM. While most of their classes are based around donations, there is a small charge for their workshops. If paid by Februrary 20th, the workshop is only $25.

And for those who would like to attend the classes on a regular basis, Dhruti and Ramdas said that the typical donation someone will leave is $5. But if all you have is 27 cents, they will take that too. I might want to donate a unicorn yoga mat for an even more magical experience.
