Ender Thomas, Yanni Voices
I had absolutely no idea. No, really—I just didn’t know. Sure, I knew that Yanni was a famous musician with millions of adoring fans, but for whatever reason I never took the time to see what the fuss was all about. But now I get it, and I’ve really been missing out.
The entire Energy Solutions arena was buzzing with excitement and anticipation of seeing Yanni and the four amazing vocalists, Chloe, Nathan Pacheco, Leslie Mills and Ender Thomas. As the house lights went down, the roar of the crowd shook the arena as the performance began. A spectacular visual montage featuring images of the Taj Mahal, Acropolis, and The Great Wall of China was projected onto sheer curtains that surrounded the stage creating lifelike 3D images of the historical wonders. The music began and we were all treated to an evening we wouldn’t soon forget. And let me set the record straight up front. Yes! I did kiss Ender’s cheek at the meet and greet after and let’s just say that I didn’t hate his tight leather pants, but that really doesn’t play a part in my rave review of this concert.
From upbeat and dramatic numbers to heartfelt romantic ballads the music was terrific and varied. I particularly enjoyed the daring violin duets, the Paraguayan harp solo, and anything Latin or opera—especially the tender lyrics or the get-up-out-of-your-seat-and-dance tunes. But my favorite part was the more personal side where I felt like I got to know the people behind the music. I particularly enjoyed getting to know Yanni through his brief chats with the audience, encouraging us to hold on to our dreams, especially during these tough economic times. And, getting up close and personal with the artists in an intimate meet up after the concert. (I mentioned the kiss, right? I also touched Ender’s flexed muscle. I couldn’t help myself!)
The focus on individual artists was also amazing. It was almost as if we were at four concerts in one. Although the crowd was large, the musicians quickly turned the arena into an intimate gathering.
In short, the concert was an awe-inspiring musical event and an incredible show by Yanni and his Voices.
