This week three of the Sassies are going to feature the Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass, which can be used by those of you already living in Utah OR by families who like to visit Utah for vacation!

What is the Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass?

It is a “pass” that offers admission to 13 Salt Lake City attractions: Clark Planetarium, Discovery Gateway, The Lion House Pantry Restaurant, The Living Planet Aquarium, Red Butte Garden, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, Thanksgiving Point, This Is The Place Heritage Park, Tracy Aviary, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Utah Museum of Natural History, Utah Olympic Park and Utah’s Hogle Zoo. You can see exactly what you get with the pass on this page. For most of the places your VSL pass allows you free entrance into the attraction, and using the pass ends up saving you TONS of money while taking you on a great tour of the best places in Salt Lake City.

What different Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass options are there for visitors?

We recommend the 1-day ($24 for an adult), 2-day ($36 for an adult) or 3-day ($48 for an adult) for friends and family who visit Utah depending on the length of their stay.

It gives visitors a great tour of Salt Lake City and takes them to the perfect places to visit while here in the area. Plus, it’s also a great way for locals to have a less expensive “staycation” this summer!

What option do they have for us local Utahns?

This is the pass that my family, extended family in Utah, friends and neighbors use: the 365 Day Pass. The cost is $69 (for an adult) and you can visit the 13 attractions listed above during the course of a year, which works perfectly for us because we usually plan fun outings once a month. We love going with other people we know who have this pass and enjoy trying something new in Salt Lake City! If I were to visit all the attractions and pay the regular price, it would cost me over $120! With the 365 Day Pass, I save 50%, which is HUGE!

Here are some of my family’s favorite attractions included in the Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass:

Red Butte Gardens: I can’t believe it took us so long to make it out to this Salt Lake City attraction but we just loved it! My kids learned so much about all the different plants, and the trails in the gardens are beautiful and shaded for hot summer weather. They have many places to sit; you can have a picnic or sit at a table for lunch. The children’s gardens are very fun and interactive, and that part of the gardens alone could have filled our day. Utah’s Hogle Zoo: Here we love the giraffe house. You can go up to the second level so you are VERY close to the beautiful animals! We love going up there and watching them eat and come in and out of their houses.

Utah Museum of Natural History: Boy, do we adore this place! It is definitely a place where it is not only entertaining but educational as well. We really do have such a blast at the museum with my girls. They spend a crazy amount of time studying all of the minerals, fossils, artifacts and dinosaurs!

We’ve loved being Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass owners this year and have had a blast around Salt Lake City!

It’s the summer and the kids are out of school—and you’re out of ideas to entertain them (and they may or may not be driving you crazy already). Never fear! The Utah Museum of Natural History is here! We are quickly learning in our house that UMNH is the go-to place when we are wanting to have lots of fun and sneak in some education too.

Of course the Utah Museum of Natural History didn’t disappoint this spring, and now they are offering a fantastic opportunity for kids to enjoy the museum while participating in their summer camps. I know what you’re thinking: “How do I know how good the summer camps are?” Um, because my daughter has not stopped talking about how seeds become fruit, and what plants need to grow and on and on and on since she attended the Budding Botanist class. She had fun while learning, and who wouldn’t want that for her child during the summer!? Even though Savannah hadn’t shown any prior interest to the class we chose, once she learned about it all, she became obsessed.

With so many different classes to choose from there is definitely something for every young one. They even have classes geared toward 9th graders. Savannah is already looking at the other classes she wants to attend, and this will be something we will incorporate into every summer from here on out.

The Beehive Bazaar

The Beehive Bazaar 2010 Spring Show is at Thanksgiving Point and I am thrilled! Usually I drive all the way down to Provo twice a year because I love the Beehive Bazaar THAT much, but this year it is even closer to me!

The Beehive Bazaar is Utah’s own independent arts and craft show highlighting trendsetting, one-of-a-kind, “you aren’t going to find this at the mall” handmade treasures. Never the same and always certain to surprise and delight, the show is replete with totally to-die-for jewelry, paintings, bags, glass, vinyl, paper, clothing and accessories as well as couture cupcakes, jams, cookies, caramels and treats. The Bazaar is not your mother’s craft boutique.

This is where I go to find items no one else has seen (and on which I get compliments throughout the year) and to find a present for someone who has everything. This is my go-to place to pick up something nice for myself and the ones I love, something I know they will cherish throughout their lives.

More than seven years ago Molly Call, Noelle Olpin and a few of their crafty friends and family decided they needed a venue where they could share their creations with others in their community. The first few events were held in their homes and attended by a handful of family and friends. Year after year additional artists have been added, larger crowds come to shop and the size of the venue continues to increase while the mission of the event has remained the same: always unique, only handmade and continually the best.

This year the Beehive Bazaar is pleased to announce that Thanksgiving Point will be hosting the event—and it’s certain to be the best one to date. A VIP party will kick off the event with an evening of schmoozing with your favorite artists, food, music, door prizes and first-dibs shopping on all of the latest handmade goods. The show will also include additional days and artists as well as a more efficient check out process, so getting out of the Bazaar with all of your loot will be faster than ever!

Preview: Mommy Models by Emily of Winkfotos

MommyModels is run by Emily (the photographer of Winkfotos) and Jamie, her assistant. These two beautiful women have come up with a fabulous idea!

Why not get mothers, grandmothers, sisters, friends—all women—to feel like a million bucks and turn it into a fun contest? Have them book a Mommy Models shot with Emily. To prepare for the shoot they can pamper themselves: buy a new outfit, get a fun haircut, and finally get to put on some killer makeup! And then do a fun & fabulous photo shoot with women who make you feel beautiful, at ease and will help you ROCK IT in your photos! Then when these women see their photos they are PROUD. They feel beautiful and walk away with a kick in their step!

Of course the big question is, can I afford it? Yes! For only $65 you can have an Individual Mommy Models Shoot, which is 45 minutes long and includes a CD with 10 images. You can also do a group Mommy Model Shoot and each member will receive a disk with 10 personal images and up to 5 group images. That is $55 per woman! To make this even more fun, they throw a Mommy Models contest! It is for any woman 25 or older, who is married or has children. To be part of the contest you MUST wear some sexy, flirty, hot heels because it is the SHOES people will be voting for. The voting runs during the first two weeks in August and whoever wins with the most votes receives a Family Session with Winkfotos for free!

Emily, the photographer behind Mommy Models

I just adore this idea! If you look through the pictures of the Mommy Models on MommyModelsBlog they are all so different but each of them are BEAMING in their pictures. I love it, I love it, I love it!

By the way, anyone who “Likes” their Facebook Page is entered to win a Mommy Models 2010 shoot which will be chosen on May 1^st.

They do most of their shooting in Salt Lake and Utah Counties but will travel to Southern Utah for shoots and even have a couple of weekends set aside so they can do Cedar City/St. George shoots.

Oh Sweet Sadie Boutique in Utah

Oh Sweet Sadie is THIS Weekend down at one of the Sassies’ favorite areas,So Da Row in Daybreak, Utah.

At their boutique they feature over 80 talented artisans and vendors. You’ll find anything from clothing to home décor to baby items to the best chocolates known to man (or woman). I have picked up an adorable vintage cake plate, children’s books, original art work and much more.

This year they are doing an “Opening Night Party” on Thursday, April 29^th from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with only a $5 cover charge. There will be a live band, fashion show, refreshments and giveaways.

The boutique officially opens Friday, April 30^th at 9:30 a.m. and is open until 9:00 p.m. that evening. It is also open Saturday, May 1^st from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

They are doing another new thing this year called “The Academy,” in which they offer 12 different classes. All supplies are included and they are teaching things like how to make homemade toys, vintage banners, fabric flowers and how to decorate cakes. I want to learn how to make homemade peanut butter cups from their amazing chocolate vendor! The Academy is held Friday evening, April 30^th from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and then Saturday morning, May 1^st from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

I will be there! I don’t EVER miss it and I hope to see you there too!
