Located in a beautiful old house on Main Street in Lehi, Flowers on Main blew us away with their passion and creativity.

You are greeted with the fragrant smell of flowers bought from South America and local sellers and a warm feeling when you walk in the doors. The shop is decorated according to the seasons and you can’t help but be inspired. Then you start learning about how Flowers on Main is more than just a quaint little flower shop–they were even on an episode of Sister Wives doing the flowers for a wedding. They didn’t know it was a “Sister Wives wedding” and at their flower consultation Holly, one of the owners, even asked, “Are you guys sisters or friends or something?” The sister wives giggled. The clip was also shown on Oprah.

Then you hear how the owners James and Kris (husband and wife) with cousin Holly, always had a passion for flowers and opened the shop together after 40 combined years in the floral business. Shortly after opening the shop, Kris lost her vision to some cancer related issues and now jokes about being the “delivery driver.” Her sunny personality seems the perfect fit for a flower shop owner, even if she can’t see the flowers any more. She had us in stitches all evening.

You are further impressed when you learn about the Flower of the Month Club where a simple specific flower arrangement is delivered every month with a little education on that flower. What a fabulous birthday or Christmas present! September’s flower was the deep purple aster above.

What was your first impression?

Carina: The heavenly smell.
Emily: The fabulous smell and quiet atmosphere. The space seemed so small, I was surprised they had room for spa treatments!
Jenny: I love how it smells. So impressive that they can pull off this atmosphere in a mall.
Kim: Bright and clean atmosphere. Loved to clean fresh scent of all of the products. The set up of the salon really invites you in to experience and test all that they have to offer. I loved the adorable little shopping baskets to hold all of your goodies for you until checkout.
Kristina: The salon looked very high end, and the staff was friendly. It was clean and well maintained, and the spa area was nice and quiet.
Lindsey: There is a smell when you walk in that is unmistakably Aveda. When you walk in, it is like instant aroma therapy. The lines in the salon and spa are clean and simple. You feel relaxed even before you you start any treatments.
Stephanie: I loved the way the salon and spa smelled. It doesn’t smell like a typical hair salon full of chemicals and hair dye. It smelled more like a relaxing day at the beach, which is nice because salons typically give me a headache from the overpowering harsh product smell.
Sue: Professional, quiet atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff.
Vanessa: Looks like such a small space! (It actually is not; it is very roomy inside and keeps on going and going in the back. It tricks you!) All of the staff had big bright welcoming smiles.

What did you like the most?

Carina: I love Aveda products and the Aveda mission. I can get pampered with products that are effective, and know that they’re being produced in a sustainable way.
Emily: The friendly staff and again, the aromatherapy used throughout the salon. I also loved the owners’ passion for Aveda’s mission.
Jenny: So, so much: The friendliness of the receptionists, the sincerity and professionalism of the owners, talking about the Aveda mission, and of course talking about all the spa services that are offered at REMEDEZ. I got a manicure with shellac, and though I usually NEVER wear nail color, I’m sold on getting this done regularly (it’s a gel that doesn’t chip, so it lasts longer).
Kim:I liked the people. Sometimes when I go into a higher priced salon or spa, I feel extremely intimidated. Usually when I go to a place like this, it is a treat, or I have saved up lots of my hard earned money. I want to be treated like I go there every week. This is how REMEDEZ made me feel. So much so I am anxious to even make the drive down to Utah County for my next treatment and relaxing spa experience.
Kristina: My massage was AMAZING. It is probably the best massage I have ever had. And any chance I have to be naked is an extra plus in my book. My massage therapist was extremely knowledgeable about the body and offered lots of great stretches and information about things to help some pain I was having. She also listened to me and used the right amount of pressure and worked on the areas I asked her to. She also found a knot in my butt, so that was terrifying/awesome.
Lindsey: I had an incredible deep tissue massage and the therapist took the time to answer all my questions. She told me which parts of my body were the most tense, possibly why and gave me stretches and ideas on how to properly care for those muscle groups as part of my treatment. I call that going the extra mile.
Stephanie: The person who did my pedicure, Aiko. She was so friendly and kind. It makes a huge difference when people in the service industry are personable and can carry on a conversation. Aiko was smart, funny, and wonderful to speak with. It shows me that REMEDEZ takes who they hire seriously.
Sue: My massage!
Vanessa: That after your service they would sit down and talk with you about it, give you their trips and ask you if you had any questions. The level of expertise with the facial and the way everyone made you feel so comfortable.

What didn’t you like?

Carina: There’s never enough time to do everything they have to offer.
Emily: Though my technician was nice, I wasn’t very impressed with my pedicure. My heels were still a bit dry, and I don’t have horrible heels to start with. And though my polish dried quickly (much faster than Kim’s!), it started looking haggard fairly quickly. I even had one nail’s color peel off entirely within a couple days! Pedis should last a LOT longer than that.
Jenny: My nail technician wasn’t friendly, but I’m confident her attitude isn’t representative of what Remedez stands for.
Kim: Well, I hate to even say because I got a free manicure and all (which was WONDERFUL and the staff did an excellent job), however my nail polish—either the base coat was old or the polish itself was old—never dried. Four hours later it was still tacky; I thought I was crazy until I had another Sassy peel it off. Luckily and happily it was only a one case thing as the other ladies had beautiful pedicures and manicures that dried quickly and looked amazing.
Kristina: I’m not really into a lot of the Chakra/New Age stuff. Before the massage started, we did some Chakra cards and talked about it. It’s not really my thing but it didn’t detract from the experience, either.
Lindsey: The spa space is a little tight and I wasn’t a fan of the music playing in the treatment rooms.
Stephanie: My heels still felt a little dry after my pedicure. But I am sure there is no amount of lotion or cream that could cure the desert that were my poor neglected feet.
Sue: Having to walk out into the mall when I was done. Wish I could have escaped through a back way.
Vanessa: The robes looked a bit dingy to me. I know Aveda on their website goes more into detail on the different communities around the world they helped and their mission but I wish it was explained and represented in the store more prominently. I wish it weren’t located in the mall but do understand why that helps their staff have enough business and to keep them doing well.

Would you refer REMEDEZ to a friend?

Carina: Absolutely, in fact, I’d like to go to REMEDEZ with a friend. More fun that way.
Emily: If I knew someone looking for an Aveda salon in that area, then for sure. I think their prices are reasonable and the staff friendly. But I wouldn’t make a special trip down there myself.
Jenny: Absolutely, and in fact, I already do. Full disclosure: I’m a loyal REMEDEZ client, as well as a former employee; it was a great place to work, and it’s an outstanding place to relax and be treated to services which help rejuvenate. Every time I walk out of REMEDEZ I feel better than I did when I arrived, and it’s well worth the time and money.
Kim: I most certainly would. I loved meeting the owners. I loved hearing about the philosophy behind Aveda, and why they feel so strongly about their business solely carrying Aveda products. Every single staff member I met was completely wonderful and I would love to send a friend there to be pampered and rejuvenated.
Kristina: Definitely. I am actually considering driving 45 minutes, through construction and billboards about modest clothing, in order to see her again for another massage. The prices were actually quite reasonable as well for an Aveda salon. Some of them are rather pricey.
Lindsey: Absolutely. I would even purchase a gift card for them. My massage was just what I needed to de-stress. I walked away with ideas on how to keep myself in good shape even when I am not at the spa. That is relaxation and knowledge is something I would love to give to my friends.
Stephanie: Yes. The prices were very reasonable for a full service salon that carry Aveda products. Plus, if they live in Utah County it is so close.
Sue: Absolutely!
Vanessa: Yes, I am now addicted to facials because I see the improvement it has had on my skin. It was such a treat and relaxation to get one and the whole experience having it done there was really superb.

I don’t make the trek to Utah County very often. We mainly head down on Sunday evenings for dinner with the in-laws, and Sundays means no stepping into any boutiques no matter how delicious the offerings. Good thing the Sassies had a Utah County night on the calendar or we might never have discovered ShayBee’s Chocolate, Fashion & Gift Boutique.

Tucked away on Springville’s Main Street, you could almost miss ShayBee’s if you weren’t looking for it. And then you’d be sad. Very, very sad. Because this little boutique is chock full of goodies, both the edible and inedible kind. Trust me, I know. I entered with my Flip camera in hand and left with the cutest top, skinny jeans, headband and “You Are My Sunshine” decor piece currently sitting atop my office bookshelf. (This Sassy gig can get expensive but it’s so worth it!)

The owners, Lisa and Clint, are THE CUTEST couple and have such a passion for what they do—and what they do is make delicious fudge, chocolate-dipped strawberries and caramel apples; stock the cutest handmade “treats” from local vendors (good luck choosing just one pair of earrings); offer customers stylin’ clothing; and give us women a much needed girls’ make-and-takes-style night out every Thursday. Oh, and they’ve designed ShayBee’s so its chic yet cozy and shows off its truly awesome original brick wall and exposed beams. I seriously want a room like that in my home!

Did we already mention they offer wedding planning services? What don’t these two do? Oh, I know. They don’t leave their girls out of the mix. Their two little ones join them at the store now and then, helping Mom and Dad make ShayBee’s the sweetest little boutique around!

I’m actually kinda glad the jeans I purchased didn’t quite fit right because it gives me an excuse to return to ShayBee’s on a non-Sunday day. I’m sure I missed something I didn’t know I needed last time I was there. The only thing I didn’t love was the lack of a real dressing room. They do have a nice little bathroom where you can try on clothes, but it lacks some coat hooks for hanging things and a chair or ottoman for placing your clothes. I sort of had to balance my things on the back of the toilet or atop the closed toilet seat. Not the ideal dressing room, but it didn’t stop me from buying an outfit!

Becky: Holy cool location…and fudge!!!
Emily: Why is this little treasure of a store not in Salt Lake County? Oooh, super cute earrings…and look at those headbands. Wait, did you see this awesome wooden sign?
Jen: I loved the atmosphere. That giant painted wall is awesome!!!
Jenny: Ugh. Another boutique. This is not my scene, not in any sense.
Stephanie: I was concerned that the store was going to be very high priced because of its upscale look. But I was so surprised to see how inexpensive everything truly was.

Becky: The fudge. Great quality and not-your-everyday-flavors. The store itself. Those brick walls and beams were so awesome. ShayBee’s sells adorable wrapping paper too! I bough three rolls and can’t wait to use them. The owners were extremely hospitable and sincere; I would love to be a regular and just chat with them each visit. You can tell they love what they do.
Emily: The owners—the kindest, most sincere, fun couple! I adore the rustic, original interior (I want a brick wall and exposed beams like those in my home) and the wonderful, affordable selection of jewelry. The fudge was delicious and the unique candy gifts were awesome. Wait, was I supposed to narrow it down to one thing?
Jen: I loved the cozy feeling in the shop.
Jenny: The surprise of it all: I had a great time and found that I would return to the shop.Their chocolate-covered strawberries were wonderful, and I love the case of bottled pop near the door. And everything was really reasonably priced, which is not always the case with the boutique scene.

On historical Main Street in Springville sits a treasure trove. Housed in a building which itself could be considered a beloved antique, ShayBee’s isn’t your typical boutique; spend a little time inside and discover a varied reserve of inventory sure to please even the most skeptical of shoppers.

ShayBee’s is owned and run by Lisa and Clint Montague, a married couple who named their shop after their two daughters. A kinder and more business-savvy couple you’d be hard-pressed to find, and they’re more than happy to take the time to show you the different items they have for sale, their bestsellers or to make recommendations for the latest prizes to land their way into the shop.

When most of us think of Thanksgiving we try to remember all the things we are thankful for.  When I think of Thanksgiving, of course I think of those things too, but I also remember how grateful I am to have an amazing place like Thanksgiving Point right in my backyard.

I think everyone knows Thanksgiving Point for their golf course, dinosaurs and gardens.  But recently when the Sassies visited Thanksgiving Point we were treated to a the wonderland that is the Emporium.  You already read about how the Sassies enjoyed our evening of exploring the shop but did you know about all the FUN we had?

There was quite a bit of monkey business to be had.  Well, sock monkey business.

But it wasn’t all fun and games.  The Sassies also oohed and ahhed over most everything in the Emporium.  But hey, even that is a bunch of fun.

And thankfully there are plenty of soft places to fall in case you feel faint when you find the item of your dreams.

Grab a couple girlfriends, maybe a neighbor or two, or even your favorite mother…

What was your first impression?

Camille: If my home was decorated like this, there would be issues because I’d never leave! Very posh, comfortable and classy styles.
Emily: Why do I not shop here more often? Look at all the fabulous decor, clothes and holy crap! Look at those turquoise cowboy boots!
Quinn: Have always loved Thanksgiving Point and the Emporium is such a fun place to wander, searching for unique treasures.
Stephanie: It smells so wonderful in there! I swear all of my first impressions have to do with smell.
Vanessa: Beautiful! It is jam-packed full of great ideas, products, gifts for special events but without feeling cluttered or like you are completely lost.

Camille: I love that they offer cooking classes, and a variety of them as well (including how to make the best cupcakes)! And that kitchen is amazing!
Emily: Besides those fabulous cowboy boots? I loved the kitchen—I am definitely going to take a cooking class or two!
Quinn: I loved the environment, decor and the fabulous clothing variety.
Stephanie: I really liked how open the space felt. The high ceilings really help it seem bigger. And of course everything in the Emporium. It is like a decorating dream.
Vanessa: All the wonderful ideas they put together that you can either buy or make a spin-off item from. Also the selection…it isn’t the “same-old same-old” and you can tell a lot of thought goes into every item they decide to stock.

Camille: The prices of the furniture/decor/clothing in the shop were a bit higher than what I could afford with my allowance.
Emily: Probably the prices. The boots I wanted were over $200 (typical but still hard to swallow) and some of the clothing was WAY out of my budget…but I was still tempted!
Quinn: The baby section felt a little chaotic and the clothing prices were higher than I usually buy. It would be nice to have a moderately priced clothing line there, too (maybe it was there, but the Emporium is so full that I couldn’t see it).
Stephanie: It was hard to tell what was for sale and what was just display. If I didn’t know almost everything there is for sale I would be really confused. Also, if you have young children it is very “bull in a china shop”-ish.
Vanessa: I shop a lot of boutiques and really am fine with paying “boutique” prices, although I think Thanksgiving Point Emporium is still a bit too high. Also I went in a couple of days after and a couple of the staff were incredibly rude. There are a couple of ladies on their staff that are actually quite snotty and rude. Can I say that? I just did.

Camille: I would, especially for the gardening tips and cooking classes (as long as they brought me along with them).
Emily: Yes, especially for the cooking classes. They are affordable and I’ve heard rave reviews! Plus The Emporium is a great place to window shop during a girls’ night out!
Quinn: Absolutely. I think the Thanksgiving Point Emporium is a fun place to spend time with girlfriends, mom or sisters (notice how I didn’t say husbands… *wink*).
Stephanie: Yes. It is somewhere you could just wander through for hours with an old friend.
Vanessa: Oh yes I do! I take friends and family to just hang out and browse all the shops. It really is a fun place to go. I really want to try one of their cooking classes soon.

Camille: “Cute,” “adorable,” “unique” were the words that kept jumping out at me while browsing through this store! That, and “Can I live here??”
Emily: Holy crap, this is the cutest children’s boutique I’ve ever seen! If I had decorating skills like the owner, my kids would be set!
Evonne: So many cute things you just know you are going to get in serious trouble when your husband finds out how much money you spent!
Kalli: Great store, bright, inviting, well decorated and chock full of good stuff.
Michelle: The decor was adorable and I was very impressed to find out the owner designed most of it herself. It was like walking into a childhood dream with so many fun things to look at.
Quinn: It took my breath away.  Everything is so adorable and classy.  It’s hard not to stay there for a long time because the whole atmosphere is so lovely, peaceful and inviting.
Stephanie: The store is just beautiful inside, from the fabric to the bright, open floor plan to all the decor. Just gorgeous.

What did you like the most?

Camille: I can’t narrow it down…. the selection of children’s books, the gorgeous combination of children’s bedding and decorations and even the women’s fashion and accessories! And Tiffany’s passion for her business. I love the history behind it as well! OK, so that’s a lot that I like the most….
Emily: I love a lot of things about Oopsie Daisy: the toy selection, shoe collection and the fun little jewelry accessories like their bejeweled spider rings for Halloween. I am in love with their canvas artwork as well.
Evonne: The shoes…oh, all the shoes!
Kalli: Their toy/book section was really unique and full of quality and relatively affordable things.
Michelle: They had an amazing selection of Melissa & Doug toys, which we adore. They also had a great selection of beautiful quality diaper bags and colorful bedroom and nursery furniture. I also love that you get free gift wrapping with a purchase over $25.
Quinn: I love how all the products are durable, built to last.  It’s really reassuring to know that the things I buy at Oopsie Daisy will wash and wear well, along with being totally unique.
Stephanie: The wide variety of items they carry. You could walk in for a diaper bag and come out with a whole new crib set.
Vanessa: The brands they chose are high quality; they are brands that are funky, unique and also brands I have been recommending to my blog readers for a long time. This is where I come when I want to find a present for a cousin, niece, friend of my daughter’s we just adore and want to get them something really, really special.

Camille: That it’s not located in Utah County. Although, my checking account would thank me that it’s not. I’d have no control over myself if it were so accessible to me!
Emily: I would have to say the prices. Even though they seem to be on par for brands like Petunia Picklebottom, Joe’s Jeans (for kids), Tea Collection and Room Seven, those brands are out of the price range for someone who shops Target and Old Navy and hits the clearance rack at GAP. One of the women’s shirts I loved was $122! I won’t even spend that at Anthropologie! (Note: I have solved this problem by shopping the clearance section in Oopsie Daisy and using their coupons when they arrive via email.)
Evonne: I always want to see more boy stuff!
Kalli: A lot of the children’s clothing items were definitely out of my price range, which was sad because they really have some great pieces I’d love to dress my kids in.
Michelle: I wish there were more boy things (I have two boys and no girls), but such is life everywhere you go.
Quinn: I feel like the baby clothing section is a bit lacking.  I’m just not someone who is big on dressing my babies in layettes.
Stephanie: The items they carry mostly cater to young children and babies. My kids are teenagers so it isn’t a store I would shop in regularly for my family.
Vanessa: I DO love Usborne books for children under 3 or 4., but I would like to see more of a selection for books for girls and boys in the 7- to 10-year-old range and not the Usborne books.

Camille: Absolutely! Anyone who has children or knows people with children will be able to find the perfect gift for any occasion!
Emily: Totally! I’ve already told quite a few girlfriends about it and at least one or two have made their way over to the west side.
Evonne: I already have!
Kalli: I would definitely.
Michelle: Definitely! I already have. They have a great selection of quality items!
Quinn: I’m constantly recommending Oopsie Daisy because I get asked frequently where I found my maternity clothes, jewelry, kids’ clothing, furniture and toys (yes, I frequent Oopsie Daisy – my kids are often saying, “next time when we go to Oopsie Daisy…”).  I love this boutique!
Stephanie: Yes. There aren’t many high end baby/children boutiques in our area. I know several people who would love all the products they have to offer.
Vanessa: YES, I have over and over and will continue to do so. This is where I find special presents for my girls, their outfits they wear in pictures and just to go window shopping. Boy, I love this place.

Disclaimer: The Sassies were given a few gift items and a gift card in exchange for a review. It was like we were kids in a candy shop!

Four years ago, after all of Tami Thornton’s kids had moved out and she had finished her college degree, she was on the lookout for a new hobby—something she could finally do, learn to love and have tons of fun with. She had read in a newspaper article how a woman made homemade soaps out of her kitchen and she thought she would love to give that a try. Tami went to the library and collected all the information she could on learning how to do this. She still wanted to see it done in person so she put an ad on craigslist and a nice woman a couple cities over invited her to come on over and watch her do it in person.

Tami was hooked! For the next three years she experimented with recipes and gave her soaps as gifts to friends and family. Then this past summer she turned her hobby into a business called Beehive Soap & Body Care. She sold her items at local boutiques, farmers markets and got to work getting her line into stores all around Utah. And she has very, very successfully done so; her line is popping up everywhere!

One of the things the Sassies love is that Tami uses a very important LOCAL ingredient in her soaps. Her soaps are made with either goat’s milk, water, or yogurt (a couple of the “spiked” soaps even have beer). The goat’s milk in her soaps comes from the very local and popular Drake Family Goats Farm.

And it’s not just soaps that she carries; she does shampoo bars, perfume sticks (oh la la, these are amazing), scrubs, lip balm and more.

We can’t wait to tell you what we thought about her line so stay tuned for Wednesday!

We’ve already told you about the “sweet” little find in Tooele known as Sweet Lizzie’s, but right across the street is yet another hidden treasure. Sweet Pea Boutique may not catch your eye from the outside but once you’re through the doors you’ll get an eyeful of racks and racks of gently used children’s clothing, baby gear, accessories and toys plus a nice collection of new items like tutus, charm necklaces, magnet sets, hair bows and headbands.

Though at first you may feel a little overwhelmed (and a little pressed for space if it’s back-to-school time), you’ll quickly get lost among the shelves of blankets, DVDs and toys (hello—Melissa & Doug!). We browsed Sweet Pea Boutique’s great collection of cribs, baby bouncers, blessing dresses and dress suits (I love those little suits for toddler boys) and were pleased to find the clothing even went up to pre-teen sizes.

I found the cutest pair of heels and was sad to discover they were a half size too big. My daughter was happy to discover they fit her perfectly. I also came home with a fabulous magnetic wooden princess dress-up toy and a charm necklace for my daughter’s birthday. I saw a couple of the other Sassies toting super cute clothes for their little ones and one Sassy stocking up on some fun gifts for nieces and nephews.

Sweet Pea Boutique also had a few new clothing items for kids plus the largest wall of hair bows and hair accessories I think I’ve ever seen! The store did not have that stuffy smell most secondhand stores do and everything was organized according to age and size. It was pretty easy to find just what we needed…and then some!

After our day at Sweet Lizzie’s and Sweet Pea Boutique, both owned by Aimee, we were rethinking our previous opinion of Tooele. We all thought it worth the drive out there just to visit those two stores and a couple others we saw along Main Street. We think it would be worth your drive too!
