As a designer, I’m not crazy about the logo. As an editor, I’m not crazy about the extra Z. But as a Canadian, I’m crazy about the Crazzy Canuck. This Canadian import store used to be located on University Avenue where a trip required you to go out of your way. Now they’ve relocated to the Provo Towne Center, right across from Cinemark movie theater. Sure they boast a variety of hockey and lacrosse equipment, but that’s not why I go. I go there for the Canadian foods that I miss from my home and native land. And to tell you the truth, I was going to be sneaky and suggest that you might want to perhaps consider sneaking a Canadian treat into the movies next time you go, but when I showed up, I was greeted by a huge sign advertising the movie special.

If you check out the Crazzy Canuck sometime soon, here are my top recommendations:

• Wonderbar candy bar. Chocolate and caramel wrapped around peanut butter crunch. So good, and statistically everyone’s favorite.
• Crunchie candy bar. Sponge toffee covered in chocolate. My favorite.
• Smarties. I’ll tell you why they’re better than M&M’s—because the candy shell has its own taste. Suck them before chewing!
• Caramilk. Caramel-filled chocolate. Pure deliciousness.
• Fuzzy peaches. Okay, I’m not totally sure that they carry this Canadian sour candy, but they should!
• Red River hot cereal. Not something you’ll be sneaking into the movies, but take this home for a nutritious breakfast!
• Ketchup chips. If you’ve never eaten Ketchup chips, you don’t know what you’re missing. And I don’t even like potato chips!

Whether or not you’re Canadian, this store has something great to offer you. Stop by and try out any of my recommendations!

During Martha Stewart’s Cupcake Week, I was quite jealous of all the cities featured on her show that had fabulous cupcake shoppes. I am loving the comeback the cupcake has made over the past couple of years and I love even more all of the cupcake shoppes popping up in Utah! The is where the girls and I go when we want to feel extra “girlie” and special!

The shoppe itself is darling, you will feel special as soon as you walk in and sit down. Their decor is fun, inspiring and beautiful. The cupcakes are delicious and adorable!

At SassyScoops.com we love promoting local women-owned businesses. Today I’m showcasing some of my  favorite Etsy shop owners in the area. I just adore their creativity, quality and inventive spirit. Last year for Christmas all the gifts I bought for loved ones I either made myself or purchased handmade from Etsy, and there was so much more meaning in each of the gifts. aBitOfColor is an Etsy shop that caught my eye for my little girls and I knew they would love and cherish every single thing, from the bracelets to the hair clips to the rings. The following is a bio written by the artist about her shop:

I’m a stay-at-home mom with too many arts and crafts obsessions and not nearly enough time. A professional potter by trade, I ‘needed’ something to do while my little one was awake and I couldn’t get my hands in the mud. Polymer clay filled the gap (that probably should have been filled with housework–oh well…)All items are completely handmade by me with all new materials. I don’t use molds, so everything is straight out of my head to you.

She also creates and sells functional and sculptural pottery and ceramic jewelry.

We are huge fans of Permission & Pink in our home. My girls carry around her wool dolls all day long; sadly, she doesn’t sell them anymore. But she does make these beautifully simple and colorful prints with which to decorate your children’s rooms.

My last pick I saw at a boutique a couple of weeks ago and thought it was the most clever idea ever! Who doesn’t love finger puppets and how awesome are these?! WeeKnit is a mom-and-daughter team in the area that creates these finger puppets and a book to go along with the characters.…
