Yogurtland is roomy, doesn’t have breakable things that would make you feel guilty if your kids acted like…well…KIDS while eating their frozen yogurt. It really would be a fun place to meet other moms for a treat with the kids. OR it would be fun to grab a sitter and run away with some girlfriends to get some yogurt like grownups do sometimes.

I don’t make the trek to Utah County very often. We mainly head down on Sunday evenings for dinner with the in-laws, and Sundays means no stepping into any boutiques no matter how delicious the offerings. Did we already mention they offer wedding planning services? What don’t these two do? Oh, I know. They don’t leave their girls out of the mix. Their two little ones join them at the store now and then, helping Mom and Dad make ShayBee’s the sweetest little boutique around!

I’m actually kinda glad the jeans I purchased didn’t quite fit right because it gives me an excuse to return to ShayBee’s on a non-Sunday day. I’m sure I missed something I didn’t know I needed last time I was there. The only thing I didn’t love was the lack of a real dressing room. They do have a nice little bathroom where you can try on clothes, but it lacks some coat hooks for hanging things and a chair or ottoman for placing your clothes. I sort of had to balance my things on the back of the toilet or atop the closed toilet seat. Not the ideal dressing room, but it didn’t stop me from buying an outfit!

No cameras were allowed beyond the veil of popcorn secrecy.  I was nearly expecting to see a clan of popcorn-making Oompa Loompas singing and dancing.  Needless to say I was not treated to my first taste of Oompa Loompa goodness.  But instead I got to see behind the scenes of the well oiled popcorn making machine that is Utah Kernels, including the biggest popcorn machines I have ever seen.

We unfortunately were not given the secret recipe for Garlic Parmesan or Chocolate Avalanche popcorn.  But we did all eat our weight in samples of our favorites.   Who ever knew the popcorn making business was like working in the CIA?  With delicious custom flavors I can’t blame them for protecting the secret…and for not allowing us to all take a swim in the buckets of flavorful goodness.  It didn’t stop some of us from trying to sneak out with a bag or two.

I still don’t know exactly what is in the popcorn.  But thankfully I don’t have to know because I can just head down to Utah Kernels Gourmet Popcorn and pick up a bag or three.  Some of the Sassies are partial to three… It’s easier to juggle that way.

Like Camille, this was also my first time having sushi (and while pregnant—I know, shame on me) and can I say I was nervous? But Camille and I held hands and dove into trying sushi. One thing I didn’t realize…sushi is beautiful, or maybe Wabi Sabi just really is not the norm because I felt like they were bringing out works of art!

You really do have to eat it all in one bite and every single roll is like a new adventure. The staff was really great about walking us through the rolls that would be safe for us beginners and then what would be adventurous and fun for the other three other Sassies, including SassyStud Scott, to try. Camille and I went with the California (crab and avocado), Caterpillar (unagi, cucumber, covered in cucumber and unagi sauce) and then The Don (tempura shrimp, escolar, cucumber with avocado, tuna, salmon, crab, tobiko, green onion and crunchies). Then Stephanie, Emily and our guest sassy Scott, who are sushi pros, tried everything else under the sun on the menu!

But what if sushi isn’t your thing? Or if you are married to or dating a sushi LOVER but you just can’t get into it? Or maybe you just want some really great Japanese-inspired food? WELL, let me show you…

These ribs—plus many many more things—are AMAZING and sure to please anyone. Lastly, the desserts. They have FUN with them at this place; they are so inventive, like something you would see winning a Food Network challenge! Like their “sin” cake, a deep fried cheesecake, and then this seasonal dessert called “The Great Pumpkin”— so much fun and so yummy.

Two other fun things to know:

#1 You can rent the upstairs for parties or just a fun night for friends! And depending on how many in your party, you won’t have an extra charge. You can also have a sushi chef up there just for you! They have video game machines, projector screens and karaoke up there.

#2 Live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and it’s GOOD music too. It complements the restaurant and your experience; it doesn’t take away from it by being too loud or distracting.
